Lost and Found 2011

So OTR is over, you finally made it home and started to dry out your camping gear when you realize that you left your prize possession back at your camp site. Well, you may be in luck. A number of items have been turned into the Lost and Found. I have everything from hats, a jacket, watches, glasses, etc. Let me know what you are missing, and if I have it we can make arrangements for it to be returned to you. Before you ask, all cameras have already found their way home.

Regards,
Charlie
OTR Chair

Fundraising for First Aid

The Medical Staff of OTR is working hard to save you!  We are in need of some very important pieces of equipment, all designed to save lives: the life saved may be a friend. Or  your loved one. Or yours.  Our population is aging, let's face it! Even our younger members may benefit from the equipment.

Search for the Holy Grail

Last year’s Saturday night campground wide trick-or-treat was an amazing success.  People came from far and wide to see the incredible decorations throughout the campground and to seek out the various treats.  My goal for this event was to get people out to meet their neighbors, make some lasting acquaintances and see what mysteries lay on the other side of the campground.  You all exceeded my wildest expectations, congratulations.

Anything worth doing is worth doing a second time.  This year I’m planning a similar theme related event.  Get out meet your neighbors visit other camps, in “Search for the Holy Grail”.  Details are still in the works, but feel free to discuss ideas here I’d be glad to try and include some of them.

Adopt a Tree Program a success in 2011

Adopt a Tree at OTRDuring the budget committee of the spring of 2011, I requested up to $500 in the 2011 TRA budget for purchasing and planting trees at the OTR site. Due to the lack of excess funds and the importance of other projects, the committee was unable to fund the project.

Chris “Fang” Kramer-Harnage offered to assist in a fundraising effort during OTR and I gladly accepted her offer to help. The local County Forester, Travis Miller, was contacted and invited to the site and he visited in early April. Our long range planning Committee Chair Marshall Fausold escorted the Forester around the property and explained soil conditions and our tree requirements to him. Travis recommended several trees that would suit our needs and we settled on Oaks, Sycamores and Maples for the initial planting.

Hurricane Irene Update

For those who are wondering, the OTR site was untouched. Hurricane Irene has left its mark on the east coast. Flooding, downed trees and power outages. Many of our members were impacted and have clean up that needs to be taken care of. I wanted to let everyone know that during the heaviest part of the storm the OTR campground did experience just a little rain but we were on the very fringes of the storm.

NCRC Level One Entrance Requirement Workshop

Carabiner-smallDuring OTR, 2011, the Eastern Region of the NCRC will conduct a workshop to review and practice the entrance requirements for an NCRC Level 1 seminar. This workshop will be held on Saturday afternoon during OTR, but will be off-site, within easy walking distance.
