LAMP ASSEMBLY CONTEST

OBJECTIVE: Timed Event. Contestant will be required to effect a "Carbide Change" and relight their lamp while blindfolded.
EQUIPMENT NEEDED:

Contestants must supply their own lamp and carbide (in a container). They may also provide their own pack and contents if they wish, or one will be provided. The pack must contain, as a minimum, a bag or bottle for spent carbide, a container of water, a lamp repair kit w/ tip cleaner, two additional light sources, and a snack.

EQUIPMENT PROVIDED: Pack if needed (see above section). Bandanna.
GUIDELINES:

After inspecting the pack, the judge may "shake" it, to simulate a few hours of caving. Contestant will start with a closed pack and an unlit, fully assembled lamp containing "spent" carbide sitting on the table in front of them. Timing will start when they touch either item. They must disassemble their lamp, place their "spent carbide" into a dump bag or bottle, remove the felt to ensure it is dry, refill and re-assemble the lamp (correctly, and with the same parts as were removed), and light it. Fresh carbide may substitute for the "Spent Carbide", but the refill must come from a different container. The "spent carbide" may NOT be re-used. Contestants will be penalized if they spill their carbide ("spent" or not) or if their lamp lights in places that were not intended to be lit. The lamp must be a "normal" cap lamp with all of its designed parts present and installed correctly.
