Welcome to the Old Timers Reunion WebTo the casual observer, the Old Timers Reunion (OTR) may appear something like a rather large family reunion, which almost overnight turns a quiet West Virginia field into a sea of tents. It has been rumored that for the weekend, we more than double the population of the nearest town. To those who have been part of this family it is really quite different. Many of us have been gathering together for this annual pilgrimage since we started caving. For some, this was before they were born. OTR is a weekend for relaxing, catching up on the latest gossip, meeting other cavers, renewing old friendships, doing a little caving, enjoying the local music, and picking up some deals at the auction or from one of the vendors.
For those true old timers you may want to check out the nostalgia section. Here we are gathering information and photos from past years. Much of this information will be published in a 50th anniversary book that highlights the history of OTR. This publication is expected to be available at OTR the year following the 50th reunion. The Robertson Association relies on its volunteers. If it wasn’t for the dedication and hard work of these individuals the Old Timers Reunion would never come to pass. These volunteers work all year long to maintain our camping facility, and prepare for the next year’s gathering. The rewards are few, but the company is good, and the beer is usually cold. It’s your support that guarantees a successful Old Timers Reunion each year. Come and join us at the next work weekend, and help make the next reunion the best one yet. A Gentle Reminder – Caves Have Owners Landowners’ attitudes vary towards allowing access to their caves. While most still either welcome or at least tolerate cavers, many have become downright hostile because of the carelessness, rudeness, and even vandalism of a few irresponsible cavers. The number of closed or restricted caves is still increasing, as evidenced by the length of the Virginia Region's closed cave list. Responsible cavers can help to reverse this depressing trend. Please mind this list while caving in this area. |
