Grotto Team Challenge

OBJECTIVE The idea behind this new event is to give all Grottos a chance to compete equally; therefore, the award will go to the Grotto Team that performs the best in the competitions as an alternative to which grotto had the most members participating in contests.
TEAMS

Teams will be made up of 2 males and 2 females, but can also have a 5 th swing member. This swing member will participate in one event (which will already be chosen when the team signs up) in case of a tie. Also, a member of one team CANNOT be a member of another team…just one please.

EQUIPMENT NEEDED Equipment as needed with each specific contest.  Please see individual contests for details.
INDIVIDUAL CONTESTS INCLUDED IN OVERALL

The contests to be judged will be:

Survey— scores will be added together

Orienteering— scores will be added together

Vertical— 30 meter mechanical, times will be totaled

Cable Ladder— times will be totaled

Lamp Assembly— this will be a relay event, after the first member completes assembly and lights his/her lamp, the next team member will begin, and so on…

Obstacle Course— this will be a relay event, after the first member completes the course they will hand off to the next team member until all members have run

Tug-A-Rope-A-Rauma— Grotto teams participating in the challenge will compete against each other as 4 member teams.

2 New Events:

“Centipede Prussick Climb”—Using prussick knots a contestant must climb a vertical 20 foot long series of tubes and chain links. Contestants will be timed and the team member’s times will be totaled for a team total

“Jacob’s Ladder Climb”— a 12 foot long diamond shaped cable ladder is suspended between a 10 foot high anchor and a ground anchor. The ladder is attached to the anchors by swivels. Contestants must start at the ground anchor and climb on top of the ladder and ring a bell at the top anchor to complete the climb. The “Jacob’s Ladder” contest will award 1 point for a completion or zero points for non-completion; therefore, a total of 4 points could be obtained from this event.

SCORING

Scoring will be based on a points system:

  • 1 st Place – 4 points
  • 2 nd Place – 3 points
  • 3 rd Place –  2 point
  • Participation – 1 point
In order to be judged as a contest, there needs to be at least three teams competing!
