Volunteer InformationVolunteers are the back bone of our organizationOTR would not exist without all of the dedicated volunteers that commit their time throughout the year to making OTR a success. This page contains information about what is taking place to maintain the OTR grounds. Much of this will take place before anyone arrives for the Old Timers weekend. This is when the real party takes place. If you would like to sign up to volunteer, please contact the appropriate person (see below). Note: To be allowed on the TRA/OTR property before the official opening of OTR, you must be on one of these people's list. There is plenty to do the week before OTR officially opens, and if you are there you will be expected to work. TRA Work WeekendsThe TRA work weekends are a special time for volunteers to come out to the campground and help out with some of the more time demanding tasks. It's a good time to enjoy the campground without its 2000+ OTR attendees, and it's still a good time to socialize. Due to the overwelming popularity of the TRA Work Weekends we no longer publish the dates of these events on the web. For more information and directions contact Kelley Deem. OTR RegistrationWhat better way to help out at OTR than to sign up for Registration. The dedicated volunteers at the registration pavilion enjoy a relaxed atmosphere where they get to see absolutely everyone that arrives at the reunion. With over 2000 people arriving for the weekend, registration will be center stage for the first few days. Contact the registration chairs at the registration pavilion if you have an hour or two to spare. SecurityIn any gathering with over 2,000 people there will be occasions where some form of assistance will be required. We are a self policing organization, and this is why we have a volunteer security staff of cavers to help. If you would like to volunteer to work Security, contact the Chief of Security, Tom Snyder, during OTR at the Security Shack at the corner of the main entrance road and vendor row. SaunaThe SAUNA is always a point of interest at OTR. Partly because of it's unique nature, the fact that you will not find an area quite like it anywhere in the world, and because of the dedication of it's volunteers. These volunteers work very hard maintaining and expanding the sauna site all year long. In the last few years the sauna area has grown from a secluded meeting place to almost a town in itself. There are more structures than ever before, a volleyball court, a stage, and general area for socializing. It's one of the "you have to see it to believe it". The Sauna crew are always looking for volunteers to help both during OTR, and for work weekends throughout the year. To help out please contact the Sauna Master Paul Southerly. Gate GuardEach year OTR searches for a few elite volunteer members to attend to the front gates. It is their responsibility to make sure that everyone entering the campground has already been through the Registration Center and has their badge. The advantage of this position is that of all of the volunteer positions available, the gate guard allows you to greet absolutely everyone who is attending OTR. If you would like to sign up for gate guard, please fill out the volunteer registration form. Your request will be sent to Jim Forsythe (gate chair), who will contact you and post your hours on the web. Note: this form is only available the few months before OTR. Shower CleaningThere are 3 shower rooms for the many members who enjoy the weekend reunion. Before OTR begins the showers are scrubbed and power washed. Once OTR starts it's important to have periodic cleanings to keep them sparkling. In the past we have tried to schedule at least 2-3 cleanings a day, which usually consists of hosing down the showers, picking up loose debris, putting lost items in the lost and found, restocking paper towels and disinfecting as needed. We have had many people say how much they appreciate having the showers available and we are lucky to have repeat volunteers who make it their job to keep them clean. We would like to start scheduling 3-4 cleanings a day to keep the effort light. This is an opportunity for those of you who want to pitch in and make a difference. If you would like to sign up for shower cleaning, please fill out the volunteer registration form. Your request will be sent to Charlie Williams, who will contact you and post your hours on the web. |
